This 22,000-acre lake is one of the natural crown jewels of Montgomery County, along with its pristine national and state forests. The 157 miles of shoreline surrounding this scenic lake are ringed by some of the area’s most beautiful communities, including April Sound, Bentwater and Walden on Lake Conroe. Many of these communities have enhanced their gorgeous natural backdrop by adding golf courses, tennis courts, country clubs and other upscale amenities.

History of Lake Conroe, Texas

A manmade lake that opened in 1973, Lake Conroe is fairly built out in terms of development along its shoreline, but its communities are still highly sought after for permanent and vacation homes. Public access and public boat launching is available from several parks, including Lake Conroe Park, Scott’s Ridge Swim Area and the vast Sam Houston National Forest.
