When the search for a new home begins in a new city, such as Houston, one of the deciding factors on where to live may not only be proximity to work but also what area is the safest.

This is especially important for growing families, and even the elderly.  Recently, Niche.com conducted some research on where the safest places to live in Houston are.   The Niche ranking was calculated using data from the U.S. Census, the FBI, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and a crime and public safety score gathered via Niche user surveys.

In addition to crime data, such as the number vehicle thefts, murders and assaults, Niche also gathered information on excessive drinking, drug-related deaths, firearm related deaths and the premature death rate.  The Niche survey asked respondents to rate the crime and safety of a place on a 1-5 scale.  Below is some of the result of their survey, listing the top ten “Safest Places to Live in Houston“:

1.) Kingwood

2.) Woodbranch

3.) Lake Houston

4.) Bayou Vista

5.) Southside Place

6.) Shore Acres
