Charter schools were created to increase the choice of learning opportunities within the public school system. By creating additional educational options for students, law makers believed different and innovative learning methods would be created and used, improving student learning.

With these purposes in mind, Odyssey Academy has been educating students in the greater Galveston County area for over 15 years with great success. The school uses four effective approaches that in combination are unique to the school, and set OA apart from other public school programs:

  • Odyssey Academy offers a full day prekindergarten program for qualifying three and four year old children. There is strong evidence showing that young children who participate in high-quality pre-k programs enter school more ready to learn than their peers. OA believes parents who would like to give their children this advantage should have the opportunity to do so.
  • Odyssey Academy focuses on leadership skills from prekindergarten through high school using Franklin Covey’s Leader in Me and The 7 Habits. These programs teach 21st century leadership and life skills to students and help to create a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader..
  • Odyssey Academy is a STEAM school. STEAM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics. Teachers focus on these subjects to help students develop the critical thinking and problem solving skills needed to be successful in the 21st century.
  • Odyssey Academy offers dual credit and early college programs. Dual credit allows students to earn college credits while still attending high school. Early College is an innovative program that helps students earn an associate degree while simultaneously earning their high school diploma. The OA community believes that all students can learn and achieve their goals when they set their mind to do it. They want to see every student achieve and succeed in education and in life!
