Moving to Clear Lake City, Texas

Friendswood Development Co. developed and opened the master planned community called Clear Lake City in 1963. For several decades Clear Lake City led the Houston area in the sale of new, single-family homes. In fact, Clear Lake City weathered several economic downturns during the 1980s because of its quality lifestyle, diversified economy-largely the NASA/Johnson Space Center, retail businesses, recreation and tourism.

Located on 487 acres adjacent to the Johnson Space Center, The University of Houston-Clear Lake began scheduled classes in 1974.

Today, with an estimated population of 63,500, Clear Lake City continues to develop and attract newcomers with a steady supply of new single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums and apartment homes. Clear Lake City is served by the Clear Creek Independent School District.

Clear Lake Shores

Located on the shores of Clear Creek and Clear Lake west of Highway 146, Clear Lake Shores is a charming village often called the “Yachting Capital of Texas”. With a little over 1,000 residents, Clear Lake Shores is known for its small town atmosphere and love of the water. The shoreline drive allows golf carts, bicycles, roller bladers, and pedestrians to circumnavigate the island and enjoy the great views of Clear Lake.

Clear Lake Shores was established in 1927 and incorporated in 1962. The community is a blend of original turn-of-the-century cottages, often used for weekend escapes, and modern homes with full-time residents. The oldest municipal building still in use in Galveston County is The Clubhouse and is a source of community pride. Community events throughout the year include music festivals, a children’s fishing derby, parades, holiday events and communitywide dinners.
