  • Since classes officially began in September 1949, Alvin Community College has provided southeast Texas with 66 years of exceptional educational opportunities, pathways to rewarding careers and personal enrichment programs. Although the traditional view of a college is to prepare high school graduates for professional careers, there is so much more to ACC.

ACC has been ranked three times as one of the top community colleges in the country by the Aspen Institute. ACC was recognized for “student success in completion, consistent improvement in outcomes over time and equity in outcomes for students of all racial/ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.”
With credit students as young as 13, ACC partners with area school districts including Alvin, Pearland, Danbury and Living Stones Church to help give motivated teenagers a head start in college and toward their career goals.

With credit students as old as 84, ACC provides quality instruction to adults of all ages who wish to change careers, improve their job skills or just challenge themselves. To make getting a degree easier, ACC also offers more than 100 online courses. There are five Associate Degree programs that can be earned entirely online.

The Department of Continuing Education and Workforce Development (CEWD ) provides programs that incorporate current and new technical courses; training partnerships with business and industry; and other opportunities for individuals to acquire and upgrade skills or seek personal enrichment.
CEWD provides a variety of programs that allow students to further or begin new careers in a number of fields including health care, professional services, industrial arts and more. In addition to career training, CEWD offers Alvin and the surrounding communities the opportunity to be life-long learners in its personal enrichment and senior programs.

While the college plays a vital role as an education provider it is also an important resource for the community. Throughout the year the college hosts free music concerts, drama performances, art exhibits and more. The college sponsors free community events such as the Fitness Fair, Fall Festival, Fourth of July concert and Alvin ISD Science Fair. The college is also home to KACC 89.7 FM. The 5.6-kilowatt station is one of the few community college radio stations in Texas.
