UH at Sugar Land: Higher Education in Fort Bend County

The University of Houston at Sugar Land is UH in Fort Bend County. A UH instructional site, UH at Sugar Land features undergraduate and graduate programs from six UH colleges: Nursing, Technology, Business, Education, Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and the Graduate College of Social Work, all taught by UH faculty. The park-like campus covers more than 200 acres near the Brazos River, and is home to four pieces in the University of Houston System Public Art Collection, which are open for the public to view.

The three buildings on the instructional site are home to hundreds of students during the academic year. Brazos Hall is home to the UH College of Nursing and its innovative nursing simulation lab, where future health professionals learn about patient care and industry leadership. Students also have available to them various clinical opportunities at nearby and Houston-area hospitals and health care facilities.

Brazos Hall also contains the Follett Bookstore—for school supplies and Cougar-wear—the Cougar Corner coffee shop, featuring Starbucks coffee, and the Safety and Security teams. It also features a 150-seat multipurpose room, which is available for reservation.

The Albert and Mamie George Building (or just the George Building!) holds classroom spaces, including the Active Learning Classrooms with high definition monitors, interactive displays and portable pods. The George Building also features computer labs, collaboration stations and the UH at Sugar Land administrative team. The first floor Rotunda serves as a spacious location for study and leisure. The UH Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services maintains offices in the George Building to provide students with assistance in Career Services, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), and Integrated Enrollment Services.

The newest addition to our instructional site is the College of Technology building. The 100,000 square foot facility opened its doors in August of 2019 and features many of the college’s prominent programs, such as Digital Media, Biotechnology, Supply Chain and Logistics Technology, Construction Management, and  Human Resources Development, to name a few. The three floors feature state-of-the-art classrooms, a fabrication lab, theater auditorium, a multipurpose space, and an outdoor greenhouse.

Finally, at the UH at Sugar Land instructional site, you’ll find the University Branch Library, which is open to our students, faculty and staff, as well as our neighborhood community. On-staff are academic liaisons specifically for students and faculty and their higher education research and study needs. The library is an example of a partnership between the City of Sugar Land, Fort Bend County and the University of Houston.

The University of Houston at Sugar Land is industry partnered, student centered and community inspired to help students become successful, productive professionals and leaders, both at home and across the globe. Learn more at www.uh.edu/sugarland and check out our video
