  • University of Houston-Clear Lake represents a dynamic force in modern education, offering upper-level undergraduate, graduate-level and doctoral students a close-knit, academic community, enhanced by a global perspective.
    A partnership-oriented, community-minded University, UH-Clear Lake has flourished in the midst of the upper Gulf Coast’s international petrochemical industry, Texas Medical Center and NASA Johnson Space Center. These community partners serve as practical laboratories for student internships and research, as well as employment opportunities. UHCL’s more than 49,000 alumni pursue diverse opportunities, including careers as artists, business leaders, educators, engineers, healthcare administrators, mental health professionals, scientists and more. They share distinguished records of achievement in the professional worlds of business, industry, education and healthcare.

    UHCL is one of four state-assisted universities in the University of Houston System. For more than 30 years, the university has filled a vital niche in higher education, specializing in junior and senior undergraduate and graduate-level programs. With the addition of a doctoral program in educational leadership and graduate programs in biotechnology and digital media studies, UHCL continues to expand its offerings to meet the needs of the community.

    UHCL has a student population of approximately 7,500 students; and, with an average age of 32, nearly half of the students are enrolled in graduate courses. The University serves a diverse population of students from the state, the nation and abroad. With bachelor degree programs in more than 30 fields of study and master’s degrees available in over 40 fields of study, UHCL encourages students to cultivate talents, strengths and interests that help fulfill career ambitions.

    Specific programs such as systems engineering, healthcare administration and instructional technology help students develop the necessary leadership and technical skills to thrive in a changing job market. These and other academic programs complement the core disciplines in the Schools of Business, Education, Human Sciences and Humanities, and Science and Computer Engineering.

    Educational opportunities at UHCL reach far beyond regional geographic boundaries. The university’s strategic international initiatives have enabled faculty and students to travel around the world. UHCL established its first international agreement in 1985 with the Institute of Technological Studies in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Today, UHCL is firmly committed to numerous exchange partnerships with educational institutions in various countries, including Japan, Mexico, Slovakia, Taiwan and Vietnam.

    The University’s dedication to community service includes numerous institutes and centers, such as the Center for Educational Programs and Environmental Institute of Houston. Other centers include the Center for Advanced Management Programs, Art School for Children and Young Adults, and Small Business Development Institute.
