Pomona. Livin’ on the Bayou.
In 1857, the first group of settlers that arrived in this area settled along Chocolate Bayou. This settlement began farming and fruit growing due to the climate and fertile soils. These settlers named the settlement Pomona. The name comes from the Latin name Pomum, “Fruit,” specifically orchard fruit. When the railroads arrived in 1877, this settlement was renamed to Manvel, the President of the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway.
As a tribute to the City of Manvel and its history, the name Pomona was chosen for the new master-planned community.
