Cypress-Fairbanks ISD is the largest “Recognized” school district in Texas for the 3rd consecutive year. Located approximately 20 miles northwest of downtown Houston, it encompasses 186 square miles. As one of the fastest-growing school districts in the nation, CFISD’s student enrollment at the beginning of the 2010-11 school year exceeded 106,000, making it the second-largest school district in the Houston area and the third-largest in Texas.
Cy-Fair ISD opened two new elementary schools in August 2010, giving the district a total of 83 schools. The district began the 2010-11 school year with 52 elementary schools, 16 middle schools, 11 high schools and four special program facilities. The 2009-10 National Merit honorees featured 37 Finalists, 38 Semifinalists, 88 Commended students, 4 National Achievement Scholars and 27 National Hispanic Scholars.
